Vaccine Eligibility Expands in Alabama
February 19, 2021
There is light at the end of the tunnel. A WAFF 48 article written by Kate Smith titled "Mass Vaccination Clinic Opens in Huntsville; This Week Only"
reports that about 1,700 people received their coronavirus vaccine on Monday at a mass vaccination clinic at John Hunt Park as part of a statewide initiative to get as many people vaccinated. The Alabama Department of Public Health provided 5,000 extra doses to the Huntsville Hospital to make this a reality.
According to the Senior Vice President of Operations at Huntsville Hospital, Tracy Doughty, the vaccination site will scale back to a much smaller clinic as the state could not secure any additional dosage. This move will not have any effect on those who already have a scheduled appointment.
Those that got their shot spoke highly of the vaccination site. Residents appreciated how quick and easy the entire process was and overall had no complaints. Most of the people that got their shot yesterday were from the ages of 65 and up. The article states that they were thankful for the opportunity but wished more vaccines were made available for those that want one.
The vaccine eligibility is expanding across the state of Alabama, and now 1.5 million people are eligible to receive the vaccine. Also, the Huntsville Hospital will vaccinate an additional 1,000 people per day over the course of next week. "75 and up, 65 and up, teachers, essential workers, clergy, you name it, we got everybody coming in this week," says Tracy Doughty.
